"So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything has passed away; see, everything has become new!" --2 Corinthians 5:17 This past week we finally got a new table. We had been talking about it for quite some time, but our table was finally on its last leg (so to speak) and needed to be replaced. We finally broke down, went out and bought a new table. There was a moment of sadness for me as a couple of guys from the church helped me haul that old table out of the house, and my 3-year-old son Jason actually broke down and cried, begging me to bring the table back. The next evening, our new table arrived. It is beautiful! It is sturdy, durable, and will hopefully last until our children are grown and out of the house. When Jason first saw the table, he was thrilled and kept pointing out "our new table." Our life of sin works in the same way as that old table. God's Holy Spirit works on our spirits, telling us we need to change. But we fight. We resist. We cry, not wanting to let go. We may know that the life we are living is not good for us, but at least it is familiar, like that old, broken down table was for Jason. But when we finally give in, surrender to God and let Him take over, he does away with that life of sin and gives us a new, beautiful life, much more wonderful than we could have possibly ever imagined in the first place. Are you struggling spiritually today, my friend? Are you fighting to hold on to that life of sin, perhaps even fearing what it might mean for you if you surrender your heart to God and ask him to make you a new person? He'll take your life of sin and transform you into a beautiful, new creation. Let him have control today, and I guarantee you, when you see what he will do in and through you, you will wonder why you didn't make the move sooner. --Pastor Joel
